I don’t know how else to say it — I cannot wait for the new Dead Cross to drop. The frantic hardcore punk/thrashy supergroup featuring Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle), Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies), Justin Pearson (The Locust), and Mike Crain (Retox) put out a banger with their 2017 debut self-titled release and *II *sure looks like they’re keeping up the pace.
A little over a month after the release of the first single “Reign of Error” — which we’ve already said is absolutely fucking boss — the band’s put out the second single “Heart Reformer” and its accompanying music video.
While the first track was canned madness in a 105 second package, this new single is a comparatively slow burn at nearly four minutes. That’s not to say that it’s actually slow tempo-wise. On the contrary, it keeps up the thrash sound that doesn’t relent until it’s over. Crain said the song specifically feels like a badass tune for the live crowd in the future.
“’Heart Reformer’ was as much fun to write as it is to listen to. It’s a classic Dead Cross song. It’s a pit stirrer and a fist pumper!”
And though the music video for “Reign of Error” felt like an animation project by way of a meth-addicted madman, the video for “Heart Reformer” is a live action clip with a whole lot of back alley medical malpractice. It’s got horror elements that fit in well with the music. It’s a film student’s final project, except it’s directed by Dark Details (a.k.a. Chris J. Cunningham).
Dead Cross’ *II *is coming out on October 28 via Ipecac Recordings and is available for preorder today.
